Centrale della Frutta has been working the land for years in organic agriculture for the recovery and safeguarding of biodiversity to protect ancient plant varieties.
In the province of Parma, in Traversetolo and Rivalta, cultivates the ancient Riccio di Parma tomato, the Termarina grape and the Noble pear of the Barboj, the red peach and the yellow cherry. It also offers the possibility of visits to the Garden of Forgotten Fruits in which it protects further 80 recovered rare plant varieties. An area of the land was intended for 40 Mirabolano plants, a variety of plum trees with a cherry-like appearance, ancestors of all the plum trees cultivated today.
The company houses the headquarters of the Parma Tomato Riccio Producers Association with which it has launched a project for the recovery and study of this ancient variety, making a valuable collection of historical documentation and genetic studies on semen. The selection of seeds was made not only for the Riccio di Parma but also for other historical tomatoes such as the Ladino di Panocchia and other local varieties.
Another interest of the Centrale della Frutta is the enhancement of 4 variety of oaks: Oak, Downy oak, Hill and Farnia. These plants, once grown, will increase the green heritage of the Parco dei Barboj di Rivalta.

Tomato Urchin Parma: the Riccio di Parma tomato is a very ancient variety; the first selections were made by prof. Carlo Rognoni and then continued to the present day by the custodian farmers who kept the seed. It is excellent enjoyed in salads and for thick and tasty passata.
Grapes Termarina: the ancient vine has been present in the Parma area since ancient times: an exceptional grape (both white and black) that has the characteristic of being completely seedless and particularly sweet, this makes it suitable as a table grape and also for the production of jams. Fishing Red: characteristic is its bright red pulp. The peel is dark red and velvety. The fruit on the palate is very sweet, with fleshy and juicy pulp is suitable for jams. They are delicious seasoned with sugar and lemon juice, irresistible if stuffed with macaroons, almonds, chocolate and baked in the oven.
Yellow Cherry: is a varietal group of yellow-fruited cherries. They are very old cherries, already depicted by Bartolomeo Bimbi in 1600. In Emilia they were prevalent mainly in vegetable gardens and gardens due to their characteristic color. Very sweet and fragrant. They are gradually lost due to their difficult shelf life due to the thin skin and tender pulp that makes them sensitive to handling..
